At the northern side, by the coast, on the south side of Velebit there is Paklenica National Park, the favourite vacation spot of all mountaineers and hikers, as well as all nature lovers. In the continental region of Lika, there is one of the best known and beautiful places in Croatia, Plitvice Lakes – sixteen turquoise lakes with countless waterfalls. Because of their exquisite beauty, the lakes are declared a national park and are also included in the UNESCO world heritage list.

In the hinterland of Biograd is Lake Vrana, a nature park and natural ornithological reserve, a habitat to a big number of wading birds. In the hinterland of Šibenik is Krka National Park, named after the river of the same name which with its foamy waterfalls, spacious lakes and exchange of cascades and streams creates exceptional sights which will leave you breathless.

In the vicinity of Biograd there are the Kornati Islands, another national park. With its over hundred island, islets and cliffs it is the most numerous island group in all of the Mediterranean. They are located between the islands of Pašman, Žirje and Dugi Otok, and the archipelago is divided into two groups: Lower and Upper Kornati.

Out of the 152 Kornati Islands, 89 were declared a national park in 1980 because of their extraordinary beauty, big indentedness and rich sea flora and fauna. Besides that, they are rich in many natural phenomena such as sea cliffs, caves and straits which makes cruising there a true paradise for all yachtsmen, divers and all those who want and know how to enjoy in solitude of intact and magnificent nature.

North of the Kornati Islands is Dugi Otok and in its southeastern part is the Nature Park Telešćica where you can see several natural phenomena. There you can find the most protected bay in the Adriatic whose steep rocks in some places reach the height of 200 meters above sea level, as well as a curative salty lake.

There are several tourist agencies in Biograd that offer excursions to mentioned destinations, and you can find some boats that offer rides to the Kornati Islands and Nature Park Telešćica in front of the town quay.
